Geek humour.  [livejournal.com profile] popfiend  and some others might get it.

Um.

PC HD gave me a bunch of out of space weirdass messages on Thursday so the weekend project will be moving all my stuff to a new HD. Especially since my HD is a Maxtor of the crappy die in a year variety. (yes, there was a bad batch of Maxtors. Seems as if this is one of those.)

Which means reinstalling my OS.  Sigh.  Will start that longish process this evening.  Will also upgrade my videocard while I am at it.  Lemme play with ATI on Linux, since someone has to.

(and yes, I am one of the weird minority who uses Linux as his only desktop OS at home)  I don't have a mac and I can't afford the time it takes to keep a Windows installation relatively clean.

Lost access to a BUCKETFUL of my mail (it is still there, just have to reimport it...)

Bitching at ABC follows, so LJ cut.  Those who get angry at the rightwing might want to avoid, to avoid increased blood pressure. )

ABC sucks donkey balls.  Watch anything other than that rightwing distortion of fact masquerading as a 9/11 story.

Lemme quote (from a message thread at Steve's News Blog )

hmmm, let's see...

Covertly funded to the tune of 40 million dollars by a recently discovered far right-wing operation – operating in Hollywood (allegedly for cover)

Secretly sent advanced copies to Rush Limbaugh and other far right-wing operatives who just so happen to stridently advance the exact same inaccurate views as portrayed in the film.

Denied the parties actually depicted in film advanced copies of the film, including the former President of the United States.

Condemned as, defamatory, slanderous, improvised, contrived, and grossly inaccurate by most, if not all experts involved in the actual supervision of the production, political pundits on both sides of the aisle - not to mention the former government officials who were actually depicted in the film and even actors themselves.

Condemned by all of one of the Commissioners of the 9/11 Commission itself, the purported and advertised basis of the legitimacy film. (the one exception, Tom Kean gave a changing opinion of his views of the film –and did not openly deny the inaccuracies, but instead pointed out that Bill Clinton, the primary target of the slanderous inaccuracies was currently campaigning for the opponent of his son in an upcoming New Jersey mid-term Congressional election.)

Several FBI experts terminated their employment on the project either immediately after reading the grossly inaccurate script – or shortly after they were told their recommendations for major script changes in order to correct the gross inaccuracies were not going to occur.

Planned to be aired on the anniversary of the event itself, September 11th, a date with serious emotional ties to the vast majority of the people of the United States of America, when thousands of innocent (Democratic, Republican, Independent and Apolitical) men, women and children were brutally murdered in one of the most serious and traumatizing events in American history.

Planned to be aired on Public Airways a month before a major mid-term Congressional Election – and directly misrepresenting serious issues currently being discussed in the political discourse pertaining to such elections.

Free copies planned to be distributed en masse to our Educational System, particularly at the High School Level, where political orientation is still at an impressionable stage.

Emails disclosed from officials involved in the project to far right-wing pundits stating that the (implied deliberate) slanderous inaccuracies were still “in tact” and all was still going as planned.

An actual “news” article on ABC NEWS labeling all who expressed their disagreement, distress or anger with the gross inaccuracies in, and controversial origins of the film as “Clintonistas”, a slang term also frequently used by the aforementioned far right-wing political pundits.

Repeated fraudulent misrepresentations and advertisements of the film as being based on the 9/11 commission - even AFTER the 9/11 Commission itself had publicly condemned the film as a grossly inaccurate representation of their bi-partisan findings.

....did I miss anything?

So watch something else.

DVDs are good.  Any non-ABC network is even better.  If you simoly MUST watch ABC, watch football.

Yeah.  Off to somewhere that is cool and that has broadband, so I can download big downloads.  Hopefully.

[livejournal.com profile] dawnmipb invited me...

....to tell you ten things that make me happy.

1)  Joy.
2)  Puttering about on my PC
3)  The satisfaction of a solution to a hard-thought problem.  Sometimes involving working with my hands, sometimes involving work with the brain.
4)  The taste of barbecue sauce on the hand, in the middle of eating barbecue
5)  The smell of a new hardcover novel, and the promise of a new world the scent implies.  Then again,  new paperback works as well
6)  Sunning on the beach, next to aquamarine water that promises relaxation
7)  Keeping up with friends online
8)  The characters of my favourite books... so many books, so little time.
9)  Pleasure through touch (and no, I'm not talking about that.  Get yer minds outta there)
10) Bills paid, money left over

I'll throw out the general invite.  If ya wanna do it, do it.  Not forcing you.

Still a bit blah.

WARNING: I shop when I'm depressed if I'm not broke. If broke, I go hole up and reread stuff.

Went on private PC fix job. Tell guy that it makes no sense fixing his machine because he has the burst capacitors of DOOM and so needs a new motherboard. Apologize for not diagnosing problem sooner. Is it wrong for me to not ask for payment until I fix what is wrong? (Yes, I will charge him for my time eventually, but not right now)

After, go to Grand Bazaar (mall owned by Arabs - bit 'o trivia). Stoopid game store FINALLY has the Civ IV they claimn they have. I smile at everybody, even at salesgirl (who sheepishly apologizes to me for wasting my time yesterday, as she apparently remembers my simmering beastface of DOOM)

Sims 2 is crack. For me, crack is Civ building. God, is it ever civbuilding. *bobs hasppily in seat*

OOH.

Narration by Leonard Nimoy!!!!

(also buy cheap copy of Freedom Force, a music mixing package (loops, really - no bloody Garageband for the PC) and a OLd game called "backyard Soccer" which should play on my lappy fine. It was cheap.

*plans to not come out until mid-january, but hope that game is better than the woeful Civ III expansion that kilt my love of the game DEAD.*

Games legal, BTW.

Hit the DVD rentals. Wallace and Gromit: (Aardman shorts) COME ON DOWN. Eddie Murphy: Raw: COME ON DOWN. New Wallace and Gromit, COME ON DOWN. Bird flying movie that came out this year: I will watch you.

HIt the pirate DVD store. Buy weird Spanish film with (produced by LUC Besson) on the cover - so no plot, but lots of the pretty violencia. School's Out Christmas movie (Nicktoon)...

Eat large sandwich, go to cybercafe. Type. Um, no, why would you think that I don't wanna go home? :P

So, shopped. say much about my mental state? :P

Christmas shopping? Haven't even thought much about it. Might end up with a Doug Christie jersey, though.

I have had the type of 24-hour period that in other circumstances would lead to police surrounding a shack, dead, bloody bodies and me going the fuck out in a blaze of glory.

Bah.

Not enough sleep, and I feel like shit, both in my soul and in my heart. Physically, I probably look as if I'm brooding. Again, bah.

On the positive side, I finally got a decent video card for my gaming PC.

Bleah

Bleh.

I get up with a sick feeling in the pit of my tummy, and I know it's because I have to go to work. And yeah, bad food reaction, so much wind. Haven't figured out the food yet. And with the tired.

:(

Hugs the flist. Hope all who are sick *looks in the direction of Atlanta* get better quickly.

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

They used this music for the Eddie tribute video. The Johnny Cash version. My eyes watered.

Eddie was more than a great wrestler (yes, GREAT. Up there with Flair, Angle, Chris Benoit, even Kermit (hawk, ptui). Mount Perpetually Over, to quote Eric S.). Most importantly, he was a great person and a huge inspiration to the other wrestlers. JBL, Dave. Made them look good. Credible. The great ones can do that, you know. And make it look easy. Make a broomstick look like a maineventer. Make someone with potential look like a superstar. Eddie had talent in spades. Had his demons too, but he beat them back. Having beaten them back, he fulfiled his potential.

Bleh.

For the first time in months, I could not make it out of the door to go work. Explosive... well, Divali was yesterday, and I had a roti. Apparently it had pepper/wasn't good.

My poor stomach. And other tender body parts. I now remember why I buy Charmin when I get the chance. Ouchies.

Was even too damn sick to go online for most of the day, and I gotta replenish the generic Lomotil.
richjob: (What de fork?)
Bah.

Tried to upgrade some memory, was greeted by the wonderful smell of burning silicon...

Lost: one stick of RAM. 512 MB. NEW. Nice burn mark on it. Will make a good keychain.

Lost: one DIMM slot on my motherboard. It got fried. FRIED. I can see where it melted.

Gotta search for a new board on the Monday. Grrr. Dunno how long this board will last.
Plus replace the RAM stick that got burnt...

Sometimes life can wear on you. Sigh.

Cut for MUCH general piss and moan. Some cursage. )

Bought a non-Baen ebook. "Marque and Reprisal" by Elizabeth Moon. Good escapist space opera. Will read it tonight.

May be in a better mood tomorrow.
